Smart Watch

What’s a Smart Watch?

This one is fairly basic but has a lot packaged into a small unit and enables you to communicate with your smartphone via a bluetooth connection. Essentially, it is a smartphone accessory.

The watch has a 1″ square capacitive touch screen and 3 capacitive touch buttons

The initial screen has menu option that allow you to select an app, adjust the volume or pair with your smartphone.

You can swipe through 3 pages of apps which include:

Pedometer
Bluetooth
Phone Dialer
Phonebook
Camera
Settings
Messaging
Anti-Lost
Notifier
Music
Barometer
Altimeter

Communication with your smartphone is provided via a bluetooth connection. After pairing your watch and phone, you can control functions available on your phone from the watch to make and receive calls, access your contacts, send/receive messages, control the camera and play music. There is also a pedometer, barometer and altimeter.

As you would expect, I can send and read messages and make and receive calls through the watch. The watch will vibrate when a message/call is being received.

Take pictures with the phone camera using the watch as a remote control.

Control and play music from the phone – playing through the watch.

The anti-lost feature warns you if you are about to lose connection with the phone (which must be within approx 10m).

First impressions – as a tethered device to your phone it works.

Best feature – may be the alert when a call or message is being received.

Worst feature – the watch strap on this particular model has a lack of flexibility and is bulky. I’ll see if i can get a slimmer replacement.

Perhaps a watch which you can actually use as a phone has more value. One example (amongst many others) would be the Puls from Will.i.am which is a phone on your wrist. (Although a lot more expensive – the Puls costing circa $399)
