I’ve been exploring DreamObjects and need somewhere to record details which will be of further use in the future.
DreamObjects is a public cloud storage service provided by DreamHost the Web hosting company and is built on top of the open source technology Ceph.
The service can be accessed via API, third party application or from the DreamHost admin panel. The API is compatible with the APIs of Amazon S3 and Swift based object storage services.
Cyberduck is a free FTP, SFTP, WebDAV and cloud storage browser available for Mac and Windows that can be used to access Amazon S3, Google Cloud Storage, Rackspace Cloud Files and DreamObjects via an easy to use interface.
For details about using Cyberduck with DreamObjects see http://trac.cyberduck.ch/wiki/help/en/howto/dreamobjects
I found that the default setting in Cyberduck was to make all files uploaded to DreamObjects “public” and discovered a technique (Hidden Configuration Options ) to enable options which are not provided in the Preferences menu that allows you to change this setting to “private” by default.
Simply use the following setting
<setting name="s3.bucket.acl.default" value="private" />
Other useful snippets will follow in later posts.
