3Gear Systems have recently announced the release of their SDK for adding gestures to applications using a pair of Microsoft Kinect devices. This is a proof of concept for their technology rather than a finished device.

Mockup Builder

Mockup Builder: Direct 3D Modelling on and above the surface in a continuous interaction space.

Researchers from the Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal and the University of Lille, France have developed a semi-immersive environment for conceptual design providing the ability to create and manipulate 3D shapes in a stereoscopic environment using gestures on a multi-touch surface display and in the space above the surface.

The system uses a multi-touch table with a  3D projector for stereoscopic visualisation. A Kinect sensor is used together with 2 Gametraks to track gestures on and above the Surface.

The work was presented at the Graphics Interface 2012 conference in Toronto and a paper will be published in the proceedings.

A novel approach to eliminating interference when 2 or more Kinects are used pointing at the same scene.

Shake’n’Sense: Reducing Interference for Overlapping Structured Light Depth Cameras

Shake ‘n’ Sense is a novel yet simple mechanical technique for mitigating the interference when two or more Kinect cameras point at the same part of a physical scene. The technique is particularly useful for Kinect, where the structured light source is not modulated. It requires only mechanical augmentation of the Kinect, without any need to modify the internal electronics, firmware or associated host software.
