DuckDuckGo is a (yet another) search engine

DuckDuckGo does not collect or share personal information.

Interesting … and in these times of revelations about the activities of National Security Agencies and various surveillance programs, I thought I’d give it a try and set up Chrome on my machine to use duckduckgo as the default search engine.

Check it out at

After using it for a couple of weeks, I’m not convinced. I tend to find the results returned are not as extensive as say, Google or Bing, but I guess this is down to the fledgling nature of the engine. (and of course the others have been around for a while)

However, not being flooded with advertising, based on my search terms, is a joy and I did find a couple of ideas useful:

!Bang

You can search other sites directly using the dropdown next to the search  box or type in a command like “!amazon cameras” to take you to the Amazon web-site and search it for “cameras”. These commands are called !bangs.

DuckDuckGo Goodies – Goodies are special search queries that give you instant answers on top.
